Fang-Fang Shi Inouye is a current DMA (Doctor of Music Art Degree) candidate in piano performance at USC Thornton School of Music under the tutelage of Professor Norman Krieger. Born in Beijing, China, Ms. Shi began studying piano with her mother at the age of four. She immigrated to the U. S. in 1991 and subsequently received Bachelor and Master of Music degree in Piano Performance from the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California. Ms. Shi is the William H. Phillips and Beatrice C. Phillips Music Scholarship recipient. Among many accolades and honors, Ms. Shi was the Ethnic Music Award winner at the 2010 Mu Phi Epsilon Leob Competition, 2009 Phi Beta Piano Scholarship recipient, the 2006 Los Angeles International Liszt Competition winner, and recipient of the Mabel Wilson Richards Scholarship, the Liberace Scholarship Award, the Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Scholarship, and the B. Douglas Sawtelle Scholarship Award.
As a soloist, Ms. Shi frequently gives recitals at local venues such as USC, Richard Nixon Library, Cerritos Performing Art Center, Richard Nixon Library, Irvine Valley College and Cerritos College. As a chamber musician, Ms. Shi's performance has been broadcasted live on KUSC radio station. In August 2010, Ms. Shi's artical on "Realizing Goals in Memorization" was published by ISME (International Society of Music Education) and was invited to give a presentation at the ISME conference in Beijing, China.
As an educator, Ms. Shi has been part of the adjunct faculty member at Cerritos College for over 10 years, she has also taught at California State University, Dominguez Hills. In Spring 2011, Ms. Shi joined the faculty members at the Irvine Valley College.
Ms. Shi also served as both President and First Vice-President at the Lakewood-Cerritos Branch of the Music Teacher's Association of California. She has been invited to serve as an adjudicator at the Southwestern Youth Music Festival (SYMF), Southern California Junior Bach Festival, Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity, the Winter Festivals at various MTAC Branches, and the Concerto Competition at Biola University.
Ms. Shi maintains a private piano studio that has produced numerous first place winners and scholarship recipients. These competitions include: SYMF Young Pianist Category, Long Beach Mozart Festival, MTAC State Solo/Concerto Competition, Southern California Junior Bach Festival, Cypress College Festival, and Fullerton College Ensemble Festival.
